Fiji is back open for happiness to Kiwis, and we’ve got the ultimate foodie hotspots for you to check out on your next trip.

We love Fiji for its tropical white sand beaches, year-round balmy weather and famously friendly locals. It’s also home to an array of dining options combining traditional Fijian cuisine with Indian influence and modern flavours for a unique Pacific Island culinary experience.

Whatever gets your mouth watering, you’ll find something to tickle your tastebuds, from funky food trucks to ethnic restaurants, local cafes to upmarket dining.

Here are some options to explore on your next holiday to Fiji.

Suva

Fiji’s cosmopolitan capital is a feast for the senses. High-end Eden Bistro serves fusion food by the marina, while Tiko’s Floating Restaurant in Suva Harbour offers a range of local and international cuisine, including its famous curry mud crab. Vegetarians and veggie-lovers can’t miss Govinda Vegetarian Restaurant.

You’ll find fresh local bites at The Bar-Belle, while Kanalevu Kitchen serves up traditional comfort food in a picture perfect setting. For food on the go, you can’t go past the famous Fiji Food Truck’s wahoo burgers, tacos and loaded fries.

Nadi and Denarau

Your Instagram dreams will be brought to life here where the flat whites and avo toast are plentiful.

You’ll find just about the best sizzling ribs and cold beer you can get at Vasaqa Productions at Namaka Market. Bury your toes in the sand at Nadi’s favourite beach, Wailoaloa Beach and enjoy some fresh, locally sourced seafood and a beer at Sailor’s Beach Resort.

Savour chef Lance Seeto’s contemporary interpretation of Fijian flavours at Fiji’s first gastropub, Kanu by Lance Seeto. A must try is their lobster ice cream or their incredible butter chicken rolls, make sure to wear your stretchy pants because you'll be leaving having enjoyed a feast of the senses.

An Auckland favourite located a few thousand miles away in the heart of Nadi is Daikoku. Their menu of authentic Japanese food includes tempura, sashimi and sushi, cooked right in front of you with a show not to miss.

Sigatoka and Pacific Harbour

Roadside markets, cafes and bars abound in Sigatoka and eastwards along the Coral Coast. Stop off for a freshly roasted coffee and pastry at Cafe Planet in Korotogo. Baravi Handicrafts & Cafe in Vatukarasa is a unique establishment midway along the Coral Coast that combines shopping and iced coffee, a drawcard if there ever was one!

The good food doesn’t stop once you reach Pacific Harbour. The Establishment at Pacific Harbour’s ocean-to-table cuisine and beer garden by the water vibe has made it a must-visit destination.

Savusavu

In the tropical north of Fiji lies a charming foodie paradise. Run by the former chef of the Jean Michel Cousteau Resort, you know your tastebuds are in good hands at Surf ‘n’ Turf! The restaurant is perched on the dock overlooking Savusavu Bay and is famous for its multi-course lobster menus and homemade ice-cream.

Then there’s Mum’s Country Kitchen, a spot popular with locals and famous for its homestyle curries and eccentric takeaway meal packaging. Captain’s Cafe is a bustling restaurant right on the water that specialises in pizza. Finally, don’t leave town without picking up some snacks from Savusavu Farmer’s Market, nothing better than homegrown produce and homemade treats.

Taveuni

Taveuni is known as the ‘Garden Isle’, which means there’s a lot to live up to when it comes to produce.

Gaiatree Sanctuary, a spice plantation, day club and nectar lab, is the ultimate foodie destination. Their Spice of Life Tour is a guided experience around the Fiji food forest where visitors can enjoy a vegetarian farm-to-table dining experience. Then there's a casual waterside eatery, The Drift, where you can enjoy a massage or mani/pedi with your breakfast or lunch.

Watch the sun go down with some pizza, fish and chips or local Fijian fare at Tramonto Restaurant, an open-air eatery overlooking the ocean.
